A busy week again, so not much of a preamble. I was working during the day and most nights meeting up with friends for drinks so most evenings started similarly to the picture above. Have a post with first thoughts on my new Edison Morgan and of the three inks I got a week or so ago, should go up Tuesday. And working on a couple of intro baking posts for the next couple of months. Otherwise, enjoy the links!
Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black: A Story - The Pelikan's Perch
I love this ink. I got a bottle knowing nothing about brands or ink properties and it became my favorite ink for a good long while. Nice to read the backstory.
Beginner's Sourdough - The Perfect Loaf
I have been going back to some basics and working on a some core baking skills. That prompted me to find this, which is hands down the best guide to baking sourdough I’ve seen. He covers the steps in great detail and the photos are super helpful. Really worth a read if you’re curious about the process for making sourdough loaves.
Finding a Better Bottle - Dot Cross Dot
Really interesting attempt to solve a problem I’m sure many of us share.
TWSBI Vac Mini Review - Ed Jelley
I love Ed’s reviews, and while I think I’m never going to really fall in love with an acrylic TWSBI (Like the Eco okay, but the Micarta is the only one I truly love), this sounds like a good option if you’ve been hesitant in the past. They seem like they’ve gotten the structural issues mostly taken care of.
The Art of Fountain Pen Photography - The Pen Addict
Love Susan’s photos, this is a great guide on how she makes them.
Two Japanese Notebooks - The Cramped
The second doesn’t sound great, but an easily purchasable Tomoe River pocket notebook? Yes please.
Bung Box Pilot Penmanship - The Pen Addict
This pen is a great way to get a needle-fine nib for your trusty Pilot Metropolitan. I switched nibs immediately and have never looked back. Way too nice of a nib for an 8 dollar thing.
Last week baked up two parmesan black pepper loaves that turned out great yet again. This weekend I baked a couple loaves of sandwich bread by request from the housemate and then tried a new formula, toasted walnut and dried black mission fig sourdough with a healthy amount of whole wheat flour. They’re finishing the bake as I type this and looked promising when I took the lids off, so by the time this gets posted there will a photo.
I was also surprised to receive a King Arthur FLour crock/live starter kit from my Uncle. I'm excited to get to know a new starter, and I'm going to keep this one as an AP starter, hoping the fact that I'm starting with a really well established starter will help me keep this puppy alive for a long time.
Very little except for last night watching Lemonade, Beyonce’s new visual album experience for her new record. It’s really good, highly highly recommended.
